The State of the Web, a Survey for Web Professionals
February 6, 2009 | Reports
In 2008, Web Directions South made a survey just for web designers and developers. Over 50 questions answered by over 1.200 web professionals. You can find the results here (HTML).
Here are some surprising results for me:
- Nearly half of respondents use Mac OS X. I’m still using Vista, but I’ll start using Mac also in the near future.
- More than half of respondents are working in a company or as a freelancer.
- Firefox is the most used browser, and then Safari. Yay! I’m a Safari fan also.
- A small percent (4.29%) is still testing their web sites on IE5!
- Ten percent of respondents are still using tables for layout and also 5.67% is using
fonttag! Come on… - 3 people are developing their sites for only IE. Who are you?
- Reality: “I develop to W3C standards, and then work around IE” 76.66%
- JavaScript is mostly used for animation & form validation.
